check out my new additions to my playlist (ft. Kacey Musgraves & Beyoncé)…
if you like a spy romance & the original Mr. & Mrs. Smith…
Watch the new Mr. & Mrs. Smith (now an 8 ep. TV series) (Prime). To be honest, I’ve never seen the original with Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie, but I love the new one with Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. It is a hilarious yet dark and violent drama about two individuals paired together as husband and wife by a secret spy agency in order to complete missions. The loving and goofy nature of John (Glover) with the harsh, sociopathic Jane (Erskine) is a great enemies (more like begrudging coworkers) to lovers storyline.
if you like true crime and Sofia Vergara…
Watch Griselda (Netflix) - Sofia Vergara has received high praise for her acting in this true-crime drama about the Drug Queen of Miami, Griselda Blanco. She is a brutal, business-oriented mama bear escaping the life of a wife of the cartel and trading it in for the life of the boss of the Colombian-Miami cartel.
if you liked Project Runway and America’s Got Talent…
Listen to Armchair Expert’s interview with Heidi Klum (Spotify) - Heidi is hilarious and comes across as a confident, carefree woman — much like how she is portrayed on her various TV shows (Germany’s Next Top Model, America’s Got Talent, Project Runway). The banter had me smiling while walking Wally and nostalgic for her Project Runway hosting days. She was on promoting her new song Sunglasses at Night (honestly not that bad, could be a hit at the club) and America’s Got Talent All-Stars.
if you like Miley Cyrus and mother daughter-duos…
Listen to Call Her Daddy’s interview with Trish & Brandi Cyrus (Spotify & Apple Podcasts) - These three are a hoot! I want them to come back with Miley and do an episode all together. Brandi is a relatable eldest daughter who DJs and lives on a farm in Nashville while Mama Trish is a recently converted stoner, loved-up newly wed, and of course longtime manager of one of my icons Miley Cyrus.
if you liked that episode…
Listen to Sorry We’re Stoned with Trish & Brandi Cyrus (Spotify) - This has become a comfort listen for me; their 50 minute episodes are funny, heartwarming, and I just wish I could be their friend. I definitely want to smoke with Trish and Brandi seems like a safe warm hug that would keep us on task. Their segments include: Truth or Toke where they ask each other hard-hitting questions and either drink or smoke if they refuse to answer (they rarely don’t answer), High Design where they take video submissions from listeners asking for design and home-reno advise. Reefers and Records is their most recent addition where they recommend music from the past, present, and future. Another segment is Dear MT (Mama Trish) where listeners ask the mother-daughter duo for advice.
if you like Old New York, family drama, and romance…
Read the Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton - This one took me a little bit to get into, mostly due to the fact that I’ve been in a rhythm of reading fast-paced thrillers and science fiction and this book is a much different pace. Wharton is long-winded, as 18th century writers tended to be, but writes beautiful descriptions. The romance triangle between Newland Archer, May Welland, and her cousin Countess Olenska is nothing short of dramatic. I recommend for anyone wanting to read a classic or be transported to 1820s NYC high-society.
if you like dark fairytales (think Grimm Brother’s Fairytales)…
Read Fairytale by Stephen King - My current read. King is a master of world and character-building and I’m already hooked 50-pages in (I haven’t even gotten into the fairytale/fantasy element of it yet!). Updates to come.
Coming up next…
Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans (Fx/Hulu)- Truman Capote’s voice is the only deterrent for watching this show as although it is hilarious it got old after watching two episodes in a row. Loving continuing the NY High Society content post finishing Age of Innocence.
Survivor Season 46 - Premiering February 28th!
One Day (Netflix) - I don’t know if I can handle this emotionally right now as the movie with Anne Hathaway genuinely destroyed me in High School. Regardless, this is a romantic drama that will surely tug on your heart strings. I would compare it to A Little Life in terms of how heartbroken I was watching the 2011 movie. It’s based on a book as well, but I think that would destroy me even more so I don’t dare crack that one open.
Last but certainly not least… Netflix’s live action Avatar the Last Airbender!!
